Hotels are re-opening for business
[4 June 2020] This week another wave of rule relaxations were announced in Northern Ireland, with hotels given a provisional opening date of 20th July. While the normally booming tourist trade in NI has all but stopped, airline activity seems to be preparing to restart in August, if not before. Many companies are now offering greater levels of flexibility to passengers, including on flight changes and cancellations.
For those who aren’t going abroad this summer, the local attractions may have a greater pull than ever. As long as social distancing can be maintained, places like Center Parcs in Longford and Tayto Park are sure to draw significant numbers. Dublin Zoo is reopening with advance booking essential, limiting visitors to 10% of the normal capacity. Across Northern Ireland, National Trust properties are also opening, albeit with limited facilities.
The number of people searching on google for Holidays in Northern Ireland is also increasing, and the good weather has attracted large numbers to beaches. Leisure venues, including parks and beaches have seen a massive surge in popularity in recent weeks, with Google Mobility trends noting uplift of 30% above the baseline.
Having spent most of the last three months at home, many people are excited to start venturing out more, finding entertainment locally. Out of Home remains well placed to deliver strong information campaigns to potential customers.
