Consumer confidence continues to grow

[14th May] UK consumers feel safer now doing many ‘normal’ activities than they did in early February, according to the latest Deliotte Consumer Behaviour Tracker. Falling numbers of Covid-19 cases and a strong vaccine roll out will have played a significant role in the uplift.

This is welcome news for many, with confidence growing at a time that these key sectors of the economy are reopening after four months of closures.

Confidence in attending in-person events remains relatively low, at 26%, however the uplift is evident. The same pattern is observed for those asked about taking a flight. Hotel stays are considered safe by 41% of UK adults, leaving it increasingly likely that 2021 will be another summer of staycations, despite the increased number of countries added to the GB ‘Green List’ allowing international travel without quarantine periods.
